Celebrity artist creates a royal portrait fit for the King, using only bingo equipment
30th April 2024: An incredible portrait of King Charles III created using only bingo dabbers and bingo tickets has been unveiled in the spectacular Buzz Bingo club in Tooting on Monday 29th April. This comes ahead of the coronation anniversary on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May.
Celebrity artist Nathan Wyburn, known for his weird and wacky techniques, was commissioned by Buzz Bingo to create the unique artwork.
Created with 80 bingo tickets and 12 dabbers, the portrait took only four hours for Nathan to make and has been created to celebrate the first year of the King’s reign and to wish him all the very best.
New players and regulars to Buzz Bingo Tooting can see the portrait for themselves this Spring in between a fun game of bingo. There is no better location than Buzz Bingo Tooting, a Grade 1 listed building, to honour the royal artwork. With its incredible art deco architecture, Nathan’s portrait will be among an impressive history of other artists to have performed at the venue when it was a theatre in the 60s – from Frank Sinatra to The Beatles. It truly is a location fit for a King.
Nathan Wyburn, the artist said: “I have so loved collaborating with Buzz Bingo to create this very special royal portrait of King Charles. I’ve used everything from toast, wine, pizza, soil, and my feet to create my artwork but this is definitely the first using bingo dabbers and cards! It’s been amazing to see the local players' reactions at the Buzz Bingo Tooting Club and I’m glad we can all take a moment to celebrate a year on from the coronation.”
A spokesperson from Buzz Bingo said: ‘We were so delighted to collaborate with Nathan on this very special portrait of King Charles to celebrate the first anniversary of his coronation. The portrait is incredible and we’ve loved seeing it come to life through the art of bingo! It’s even more impressive in person so we hope lots of people come down to the Tooting club to see it for themselves and play a game of bingo, a perfectly British way to celebrate the occasion.’
