Held at the state-of-the-art club in Luton, the event, which is sponsored by leading UK games studio Blueprint Gaming, built on the success of Mecca’s inaugural cross-channel slots tournament in May, which is believed to have been the biggest ever event of its kind in the UK.
To secure their place at the grand final event, players took part in a series of qualifying rounds both online at meccabingo.com and in Mecca’s venues. The 16 successful finalists (eight online players and eight in club entrants) were then invited to the Skimpot Road venue for their chance to win a share of £25,000, including a £10,000 top prize for the overall winner.
The evening saw guests welcomed with a drinks reception before players entered into a series of head-to-head knockout games, with the winner of each round moving forward to the next qualifier.
Lucky player, Keith Mitchell, 30, from Manchester, emerged the winner, triggering the jackpot winning spin to be crowned champion of the Cross-Channel Slots Tournament; “I’ve previously won £1,000 on the slots, but nothing like this! I started going to Mecca with my girlfriend, Lauren and her family. Lauren was with me at the Tournament and neither of us could believe that I’d made it through to the final round. I could hear the other finalist’s machine, and it sounded like they were banking loads of cash, so it really was a surprise when it ended, and it was announced that I’d won!”
The tournament came to a close at 12.30am, with the crowd cheering and Keith being presented with his winnings and a bottle of champagne. While it may have been late, they kept the party going at Mecca Luton well into the small hours.
“It was a mad feeling and a fantastic experience. One that I’ll never forget!,” continued Keith. “The hospitality at Mecca Luton was brilliant, and ensuring all the finalists won a cash prize was a great touch. As soon as my mates saw a photo of me with the giant cheque, they wanted to find out more!
“It was really nice waking up to £10,000 in my bank account. I’ve split the money with Lauren - I’ve got her to thank for getting me to join Mecca and we’ll be spending Christmas in the sun!”
All the finalists enjoyed an overnight stay and walked away with goodie bags, a bottle of bubbly and a free session of bingo and more chances to win on the night and again the following day.
Robert Lee, head of Meccabingo.com said: “The night was a great success in bringing our online and in club communities together and firmly cements the Cross-Channel Slots Tournament in the Mecca calendar.”
Jack Lawson, account manager, BluePrint Gaming said: "A massive thank you to Mecca Bingo for the incredible opportunity to be part of another Cross-Channel Slots Final. It’s been a privilege for Blueprint Gaming to collaborate with such a respected brand, and to see players engaging with our latest titles!"
